How Do I Decide About Buying vs Leasing?

0 00:00:00.120 --> 00:00:04.180 Hi folks, this is Vincent Batt, the founder, CEO of Renova Energy Corporation. 1 00:00:04.440 --> 00:00:08.780 And today we're gonna talk real quick about the number one question that I get. 2 00:00:08.780 --> 00:00:13.260 Should I buy my system and own it or should I finance it or lease it? 3 00:00:13.440 --> 00:00:16.580 So really it comes down to just two questions You have to ask yourself, 4 00:00:16.720 --> 00:00:21.660 are you gonna stay in your home long enough to be able to enjoy that 5 00:00:21.810 --> 00:00:25.260 free solar system once the system is entirely paid for? 6 00:00:25.440 --> 00:00:30.300 Or the second question actually would be, do you have what we call, uh, 7 00:00:30.370 --> 00:00:32.580 payable to the irs? In other words, 8 00:00:32.690 --> 00:00:36.380 will you owe money to the IRS so that when you purchase the system, 9 00:00:36.380 --> 00:00:41.180 you'll be able to take advantage of the only incentive that's out there when it 10 00:00:41.180 --> 00:00:43.740 comes to adding a solar system into your life, 11 00:00:43.740 --> 00:00:47.220 which is the federal tax incentive, what we call the tc, 12 00:00:47.280 --> 00:00:51.260 the investment tax credit, which is 30% of the cost of your system. 13 00:00:51.400 --> 00:00:54.220 So if you purchase your system outright with cash, 14 00:00:54.360 --> 00:00:58.220 you get through a home equity line of credit, for example, or savings, 15 00:00:58.760 --> 00:01:02.340 you take that, you put that money down on a solar system, on average, 16 00:01:02.340 --> 00:01:06.980 you'll be spending between maybe 30 to $40,000. You'll get between, uh, 17 00:01:07.180 --> 00:01:10.820 a seven to $9,000, maybe a $10,000 tax credit. 18 00:01:10.850 --> 00:01:15.660 It's that 30% will you be able to use that to at the end of the year? 19 00:01:16.120 --> 00:01:19.140 Uh, and in subsequent years, if you don't take it all in one year, 20 00:01:19.140 --> 00:01:23.100 will you be able to use it, uh, as a tax credit to benefit yourself? 21 00:01:23.100 --> 00:01:26.660 It's a dollar for dollar credit. It is not a refund from the irs. 22 00:01:26.840 --> 00:01:30.380 So if you have a payable to the IRS of about the 9,000, 23 00:01:31.050 --> 00:01:35.300 that tax credit, because you built a renewable energy, pardon me, 24 00:01:35.300 --> 00:01:39.500 system on your roof, that will wash tax payable to the irf. 25 00:01:39.680 --> 00:01:44.380 So if you have that appetite and if you're gonna be in your home for more than, 26 00:01:44.440 --> 00:01:45.820 say, four and a half to five years, 27 00:01:46.050 --> 00:01:50.380 then you're gonna be able to enjoy the benefit of having that system paid down 28 00:01:50.450 --> 00:01:53.980 because you're, you're basically paying up front for all the energy for, 29 00:01:54.040 --> 00:01:57.540 for that system to produce for you. And within five years, 30 00:01:57.830 --> 00:02:02.380 which is the average time for a system to, to essentially pay for itself, 31 00:02:02.380 --> 00:02:04.100 that what we call the return on the investment, 32 00:02:04.410 --> 00:02:07.020 then going cash is your way for Renovo. 33 00:02:07.020 --> 00:02:11.900 About 70% of our customers will either lease or finance 34 00:02:12.200 --> 00:02:16.100 the system. Financing simply means that at the very end, you own the system. 35 00:02:16.580 --> 00:02:21.180 Leasing means at the very end you'll pay a residual value and then you will own 36 00:02:21.180 --> 00:02:24.500 that system. So it really is up to you buying, 37 00:02:24.940 --> 00:02:26.500 leasing or financing, 38 00:02:27.240 --> 00:02:30.860 but this is not a question that you'll need to solve on your own. 39 00:02:30.960 --> 00:02:35.060 We have wonderful consultants here at Renova that will be able to go through 40 00:02:35.440 --> 00:02:39.460 all, not only the engineering side of your customized solar system, 41 00:02:39.720 --> 00:02:43.500 but also the financing that is also to be customized for you. 42 00:02:43.830 --> 00:02:45.500 Every individual is different. 43 00:02:45.600 --> 00:02:49.860 That's how we treat you at Renova Energy Corporation. So Gold Solar, 44 00:02:50.200 --> 00:02:52.900 and thank you very, very much for listening in today.

How Do You Compare Solar Panels? | Solar 101

0 00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:03.340 Hi folks, this is Vincent Battalion with Renova Energy Corporation, 1 00:00:03.680 --> 00:00:08.460 and today we're gonna talk a little bit about the efficiency and the 2 00:00:08.480 --> 00:00:10.020 output of solar panels. 3 00:00:10.040 --> 00:00:13.860 So what you're looking at here is the boring side of a solar panel, okay? 4 00:00:13.860 --> 00:00:18.420 Back here you've got all of the mechanisms required to take 5 00:00:18.690 --> 00:00:23.140 from the action that occurs on the front side and convert it to be able to 6 00:00:23.140 --> 00:00:24.620 deliver electricity to your home. 7 00:00:24.620 --> 00:00:26.540 So let's go to the cool stuff on the front side. 8 00:00:26.890 --> 00:00:30.660 This is a SunPower 327 watt solar panel. 9 00:00:31.030 --> 00:00:35.860 These are the solar cells that are essentially laying underneath glass, and, 10 00:00:36.120 --> 00:00:38.980 uh, they've got a plastic. You saw this white material here. 11 00:00:38.980 --> 00:00:40.620 It's a plastic Mylar material, 12 00:00:41.600 --> 00:00:46.060 and all they do is quietly face the sun and without any 13 00:00:46.090 --> 00:00:50.340 pollution, without any sound, uh, that it collects and converts. 14 00:00:50.440 --> 00:00:53.500 So this particular panel is 327 watts, 15 00:00:53.840 --> 00:00:58.660 and the efficiency of the solar cell, each cell is a little over 20%. 16 00:00:58.810 --> 00:00:59.540 What does that mean? 17 00:00:59.540 --> 00:01:04.500 It means about 80% of the visible spectrum that strikes the front face of this 18 00:01:04.500 --> 00:01:08.980 solar panel, not making noise or pollution. That 80% will bounce off. 19 00:01:09.650 --> 00:01:13.580 This is, at the time, about three years ago, was the highest efficiency, 20 00:01:13.850 --> 00:01:18.580 highest output, highest wattage solar panel. As time goes on, 21 00:01:18.590 --> 00:01:21.740 these are called the e-series from SunPower. Uh, 22 00:01:21.760 --> 00:01:25.740 and in comparison to say the Chinese brands, Korean brands, 23 00:01:26.220 --> 00:01:31.100 Japanese brands of solar panel, those folks are all stuck at about 18, 19%. 24 00:01:31.600 --> 00:01:34.180 And you may think, well, wow, two points, three points, 25 00:01:34.230 --> 00:01:37.660 percentage points difference. It means a lot over the, 26 00:01:37.960 --> 00:01:42.820 the total life of a solar panel. The warranted life is 25 years. 27 00:01:43.220 --> 00:01:47.980 Anything happens to this solar panel and you start receiving say, 1918, 28 00:01:48.460 --> 00:01:49.700 17% efficiency. 29 00:01:50.250 --> 00:01:54.740 This panel goes back to the manufacturer and a new panel comes back to replace 30 00:01:54.740 --> 00:01:55.980 it every year. 31 00:01:56.090 --> 00:01:59.980 This will degradate about a quarter of a percent for this particular model, 32 00:01:59.990 --> 00:02:04.500 which means at the end of 20 years, say just say 20 years, 33 00:02:04.560 --> 00:02:09.460 you're looking at 90% of the out of box efficiency is still occurring 34 00:02:09.720 --> 00:02:12.820 on this front face. So you are, 35 00:02:12.920 --> 00:02:17.260 you are warrantied for 25 years. The panel will last for 40 years. 36 00:02:17.400 --> 00:02:20.940 That's what a wonderful, such a wonderful device it is. And after 40 years, 37 00:02:21.160 --> 00:02:25.180 you're looking at 80% of of its out of box efficiency, 38 00:02:25.200 --> 00:02:29.900 an amazing product that can go up on your roof and maintain a very stable, 39 00:02:29.900 --> 00:02:34.860 consistent energy and current supply. Then this model came out the, 40 00:02:34.920 --> 00:02:39.420 the series A, the model A. You're now at about 24% efficiency. 41 00:02:39.600 --> 00:02:43.300 Nearly 75% of the light strikes off and, uh, 42 00:02:43.300 --> 00:02:48.300 will go back into the atmosphere, but it will convert nearly 25% of that life. 43 00:02:48.490 --> 00:02:53.260 Well, the difference between a 25% efficiency and say a 20, 21% efficiency, 44 00:02:53.430 --> 00:02:58.420 those four points over the warranty life of 25 years or over the actual life of 45 00:02:58.420 --> 00:02:59.860 40 years, is, 46 00:02:59.960 --> 00:03:04.500 is an amazing amount of additional output versus any, um, 47 00:03:04.590 --> 00:03:08.980 Asian manufactured, uh, uh, Korean, say Chinese, uh, 48 00:03:08.990 --> 00:03:12.100 solar panel. This SunPower module at 24, 49 00:03:12.100 --> 00:03:14.660 nearly 25% efficiency is the best. 50 00:03:15.130 --> 00:03:19.500 This is what you're looking for today. This is what we sell today, 51 00:03:20.040 --> 00:03:24.780 uh, again, at 40, I'm sorry, 400 watts of output. Uh, 52 00:03:24.780 --> 00:03:26.820 we added an additional row to it, 53 00:03:27.200 --> 00:03:30.620 but this is the most powerful solar panel, 54 00:03:30.690 --> 00:03:34.820 most efficient solar panel that's out on the market. I hope, uh, 55 00:03:34.820 --> 00:03:37.580 there was something that you could glean from that, that's interesting for you. 56 00:03:38.080 --> 00:03:42.300 Um, please tune in next week and we'll talk more about solar. Again, 57 00:03:42.300 --> 00:03:45.300 this is Vincent Battalion and uh, go Solar. Thank you.

How Do You Compare Solar Companies? | Solar 101

0 00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:03.980 Hi folks. Vincent Battalion here, the CEO, founder of Renova Energy Corporation. 1 00:00:04.520 --> 00:00:09.500 And folks ask me all the time, uh, how is it that you suggest who, 2 00:00:09.680 --> 00:00:13.180 um, to people who don't have solar, what solar company to go with? Now, 3 00:00:13.180 --> 00:00:16.460 of course I'm biased. I say I'll go with Renova, of course, 4 00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:21.860 but all kidding aside, I've been in the solar industry for, uh, now, wow. 5 00:00:22.220 --> 00:00:25.500 14, going on 15 years. And, uh, during that time, 6 00:00:25.760 --> 00:00:27.940 it really comes down to three main areas. 7 00:00:28.220 --> 00:00:31.860 I would suggest if someone were to walk up to me off the street and didn't know 8 00:00:31.860 --> 00:00:34.180 what I do, I would suggest that number one, 9 00:00:34.370 --> 00:00:38.900 that they look at the location of the company. Is it local? 10 00:00:38.900 --> 00:00:42.620 Meaning is there someone nearby, physically nearby? 11 00:00:42.620 --> 00:00:46.180 In case there was a question, if there was an issue with some of the technology, 12 00:00:46.600 --> 00:00:50.660 if there was someone nearby that, that had a say, a headquarters nearby, 13 00:00:50.780 --> 00:00:53.740 a physical headquarters, a brick and mortar headquarters, 14 00:00:54.080 --> 00:00:59.020 not just a van parked somewhere nearby who can answer my questions and help 15 00:00:59.020 --> 00:01:03.540 me out in the event of a, of an issue with my solar, uh, reputation. Uh, 16 00:01:03.540 --> 00:01:05.420 how are their Yelp reviews? How, 17 00:01:05.520 --> 00:01:10.180 how do they look online by people who have had experiences with them before 18 00:01:10.480 --> 00:01:14.540 and, uh, are willing to put out a positive or, or a negative? 19 00:01:14.560 --> 00:01:15.860 So reputation is super, 20 00:01:15.860 --> 00:01:19.540 super important because the solar company doesn't have a say in that can't 21 00:01:19.540 --> 00:01:24.220 manipulate anything. Um, third is really having to do with the technology. 22 00:01:24.960 --> 00:01:28.900 So location, reputation, and the technology. What do I mean by technology? 23 00:01:28.970 --> 00:01:31.260 What kind of solar panels are they putting on your roof? 24 00:01:31.360 --> 00:01:35.660 Please don't ever please let someone come into your home and say, oh, 25 00:01:35.660 --> 00:01:38.980 it doesn't really matter what goes up on your roof. It'll all work out. 26 00:01:39.320 --> 00:01:41.020 You want to know what the technology is. 27 00:01:41.040 --> 00:01:45.860 Is that company solid enough as a manufacturer to be around for the warranty? 28 00:01:45.890 --> 00:01:49.900 Finally, I'll add a fourth one to it. Very important in today's day and age, uh, 29 00:01:49.900 --> 00:01:53.540 regarding finance does that company, everyone offers solar for cash. 30 00:01:53.640 --> 00:01:56.220 Of course you can buy it, get your investment tax credit. 31 00:01:56.320 --> 00:02:01.300 You're 30% now going to 26% and 22%. But do they have a lease? Uh, 32 00:02:01.300 --> 00:02:05.060 do they offer, uh, some other type of, of straight up financing, 33 00:02:05.060 --> 00:02:07.260 which would allow you to own the system outright at the end? 34 00:02:07.260 --> 00:02:11.260 Those are a four for this week on how to choose your solar company. 35 00:02:11.560 --> 00:02:16.340 I'm Vincent Battalion. Go solar, add a battery, have a micro grid. Uh, 36 00:02:16.520 --> 00:02:17.660 and until next week,

Does Solar Save Me Money? | Solar 101

0 00:00:00.120 --> 00:00:02.020 Hi folks. This is Vincent Battalion, the founder, 1 00:00:02.200 --> 00:00:04.580 CEO O of Renova Energy Corporation. 2 00:00:05.080 --> 00:00:09.300 And I'm often asked by folks out on the street or standing in line at Starbucks, 3 00:00:09.850 --> 00:00:14.260 does solar actually save me money? And for me, 4 00:00:14.460 --> 00:00:17.100 I choke up because I think, well, don't you know this? 5 00:00:17.380 --> 00:00:18.200 Everyone should know this, 6 00:00:18.200 --> 00:00:22.980 but most folks don't know that in our world we measure 7 00:00:23.400 --> 00:00:27.940 by what we call kilowatt hours. Those are the units of measurement, uh, 8 00:00:27.960 --> 00:00:30.660 for output of electricity. So in kilowatt hours, 9 00:00:31.420 --> 00:00:33.780 companies like Renova using the SunPower system, 10 00:00:34.000 --> 00:00:38.580 can actually produce a kilowatt hour at less 11 00:00:38.810 --> 00:00:42.380 cost per kilowatt hour than the electric utilities. As a matter of fact, 12 00:00:42.410 --> 00:00:43.380 it's been that way. 13 00:00:43.560 --> 00:00:47.700 We reached parity or par with the utility about three years ago, 14 00:00:48.240 --> 00:00:51.620 and our cost per kilowatt hour continues to, 15 00:00:51.680 --> 00:00:56.660 to decrease while the utility cost continues to increase. So the answer, yes, 16 00:00:57.320 --> 00:01:00.820 we produce kilowatt hours at a much lower cost than the utility, 17 00:01:00.920 --> 00:01:04.700 and it's getting lower every year. So what does that mean? 18 00:01:05.040 --> 00:01:07.100 The higher your electric bill, 19 00:01:07.880 --> 00:01:10.100 the faster we'll be able to retrieve savings. 20 00:01:10.200 --> 00:01:13.540 So the greater your savings will be when you switch over to solar. 21 00:01:14.040 --> 00:01:15.300 If you buy your system, 22 00:01:16.160 --> 00:01:21.140 we can give you a return on that investment once the purchase is done in less 23 00:01:21.170 --> 00:01:23.980 than five years. If you're leasing a system, 24 00:01:24.340 --> 00:01:29.100 I guarantee that your monthly lease bill exchanging your, uh, 25 00:01:29.700 --> 00:01:31.220 electric bill to Southern California, 26 00:01:31.460 --> 00:01:35.980 Edison or whomever with the lease payment for the solar system, 27 00:01:36.290 --> 00:01:39.980 will be half. So the same amount of electricity, half the price. 28 00:01:40.280 --> 00:01:41.113 The answer is yes. 29 00:01:41.670 --> 00:01:46.580 Solar produces a kilowatt hour at less cost than the electric company. 30 00:01:46.760 --> 00:01:49.300 So thank you very much for watching. Go Solar.
