Solar is one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States today, and it’s especially thriving in the Coachella Valley. As more and more ratepayers opt to put solar systems on their homes and businesses, solar companies like Renova Energy have continued to hire and expand, even though the COVID-19 pandemic. Based out of Palm Desert, Renova Energy currently occupies three buildings on its campus with more than 200 employees and counting.

But there’s a misconception about the jobs available in solar in the Coachella Valley. We have our phenomenal installers and certified energy consultants, of course, but we also have several other departments, including office administration, finance, human resources, engineering, project management, service, marketing, and IT. Altogether, about ten departments make up Renova Energy.

Today, our Coachella Valley solar panels installation team is here to answer some questions about careers in solar!

Are There Any Skills Specific to the Solar Industry?

The short answer is no, not necessarily. If you’re interested in being a solar engineer, for example, you would need some training and an engineering background. However, the most important skill for a candidate to have in this industry is a desire to learn. In fact, most people come into Renova Energy through an entry-level position and gain specific skillsets through training. Just like our Coachella Valley solar company, we started with one employee and built ourselves up.

How Has COVID-19 Affected Career Opportunities at Renova Energy?

Interestingly, COVID-19 has provided more career opportunities. At Renova Energy, we’ve promoted people, then hired new employees to expand certain departments. With the shutdowns, ratepayers in Southern California Edison (SCE) realized how much they were spending on electricity while working from home, so our need for new, dedicated employees grew.

What are Some of the Benefits of Working at Renova Energy?

The greatest benefit is the opportunity to build a career with us. Many people who come from different industries and companies have said they felt like they were doing everything they could to move up but weren’t going anywhere. After coming to Renova Energy, it’s clear how much we invest in our employees and the opportunities we have to offer.
